Duco van Lanschot at Leaders in Finance Compliance Event 2026

"The attacker is no longer just a person with a forged passport, but an AI model with unlimited time, infinite identities, and near-zero marginal cost."
— Duco van Lanschot, co-founder of Duna
The threat landscape that identity verification was built for no longer exists. That was Duco van Lanschot's argument at the Leaders in Finance Compliance Event 2026 in Amsterdam, where he spoke on identity and the use of AI in compliance.
He opened on the 1993 New Yorker cartoon about nobody knowing you're a dog on the internet, and brought it up to date. The dog now has unlimited time, infinite identities and near-zero marginal cost.
The speech sets out three fast-growing attack types: AI-generated documents, deepfake onboarding video, and synthetic companies with plausible but fabricated registry filings. Against those, verifying a company once at onboarding and trusting the result indefinitely is not much of a defence. Duco's alternative is compliance built on sourced evidence, deterministic checks and continuous rechecking. He closed by arguing that compliance teams have been acting as gatekeepers for society without the tools or the recognition the role deserves.
Before founding Duna in 2023 with David Schreiber, Duco ran the Benelux and DACH regions at Stripe and served as Chief Commercial Officer at Fourthline, after starting his career at McKinsey. Duna has since raised over €40 million and counts Plaid, CCV, Fiserv, Moss, Bol and Brand New Day Bank among its customers.
