Before we tell you our Operating Principles, we prefer to first elaborate on why we love Building at Duna!

Our workplace

👷🏽‍ Building

It’s simple, we love to build. We are a company of founders, people who love to get their hands dirty, ship fast, and solve real problems. Expect to wear many hats and to not fit into a box of a traditional job description.

🗝️ Ownership & trust

We believe autonomy enables people to do their best work: ’When you delegate tasks, you create followers. When you delegate authority, you create leaders.’ You are in the driver seat. We trust your judgment and you have all authority to make autonomous decisions. Mistakes will be made, decisions will turn out to be wrong. We trust that everyone did their very best.

🕊️ Freedom

We are huge fans of freedom. You have full flexibility on how, when and where you work. We love reasoning from first principles, but try to minimise rules (unless legally required). By having a flexible, async and remote-first job, we are able to both work hard (we are high-intensity builders!) and have a fantastic life next to work: sports, family time, playing music, hanging with friends, or going to a pub.

🔍 Transparency

We are radically transparent. We believe equal access to information is an important ingredient for successful decentralised decision making. Employees have access to all information, from recordings of board meetings to cap tables and financial statements.

🦚 Be yourself

You can always be your true authentic self. To us, this is very important. For instance, David plays with Lego and raises his child non-binary, Duco wears marching band jackets and always brings his poodle Nelson 🐕‍🦺. We are committed to building a diverse organisation. Our cap table consists of 27% female investors (which sadly is an anomaly in today’s world) and we aim to keep setting ambitious targets to bring diversity to life.

😄 Hang with happy people

We are happy, optimistic people! We enjoy talking about tout et n’importe quoi: from AI and open source, to family and babies, to startups and tech, to crazy dance festivals and Belgian beer, to LEGO and gaming, to music and books. Expect a large emoji library on Slack, playing games together in social times, just doing quirky fun stuff.

🎓 Always be learning

We are obsessed with learning new skills fast. In our experience, the ideal recipe for this is (1) ownership and agency (2) exceptionally talented colleagues, (3) a strong and empowering feedback culture. You’ll find all of this here.

🌴 Legendary Builders Weeks

Every few months, we meet together in-person during Builders Week. Though we are remote-first at heart, we love to see each other in-person regularly for a week of joint work and social fun. This can be in Berlin and Amsterdam, or often in sunny Portugal or Spain.

🌍 Positive impact for the world

Identity is one of the internet’s biggest unsolved problems. By building better ways to onboard and exchange data, we facilitate trade, increase transparency, and reduce financial crime in global commerce. When we joined Stripe back in the days, few people could fathom how game-changing and essential online payments would become. We believe there will be a similar realisation when it comes to identity.
